OHIO’s Center for Campus and Community Engagement is seeking applicants for Community-Based Internships for Summer 2022. This program connects students to nonprofit and public sector organizations to engage in mutually beneficial internships that provide students with high impact experiential learning opportunities and provide community partners with tangible outcomes that directly benefit the southeast Ohio region. Positions are 17.5 hours per week for ten weeks from June 6th-August 12th with $12 per hour compensation. OHIO undergraduate students are eligible.

About Us: The Mount Zion Baptist Church Preservation Society has a mission to preserve the Mount Zion Baptist Church as a community-wide asset and multi-use venue that recognizes the contributions, history and ongoing concerns of Black Americans in Southeast Ohio and throughout the region. 

 

Internship Role: This internship focuses on strategic and organizational communication and fund development within the context of a nonprofit environment. The Intern will work alongside experienced board of directors to improve productivity for our organization when interacting with a variety of our stakeholders and partners. This internship will be especially beneficial to someone planning to enter a professional and managerial career that requires an understanding of the development of meaningful relations, successful organizational communication, and good management practices. The intern will work directly with the Communication/ Media Director and the President of the Mount Zion Preservation Society Board and may also interact from time to time with the Chairs of both the Programming and Fundraising Committees. IWe look forward to living up to our commitment of total engagement, and the opportunity to practice and hone our ideal candidates skills in an amicably, peaceful BUT sometimes unexpected ridiculously funny environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic & Organizational Communications: contributing to planning and implementing communications and marketing strategies including, marketing collateral for fund development, writing press releases, newsletter articles, brochure design, social media management, and photographic content.

Fund Development: providing input on and assisting with the development of strategic plans for philanthropic outreach for prospective partners such as: a local entrepreneur as Donkey Coffee, local funder as the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, a non-profit museum in Gallipolis, Ohio, or funders at the regional (Appalachian Network), state  (Ohio History) or federal (Smithsonian) level. The intern will the opportunity to directly contribute to fundraising efforts coordinated by the Andrew Jackson Davidson Club, an Athens City High School student organization.

 

Expectations and What to Expect:

Intern will:

·      Develop media (written/visual/audio) suitable for print, electronic, internet, and broadcast content for Mount Zion that can also add to their personal online portfolio.

·      Provide documented best practices and recommendations related to communications. Examples include a brand style guide, social media guide for increased optimization, or a set of templates for press releases, flyers, and newsletter layout.
