About

Bio-blitz at Decker Tallgrass Prairie Preserve - Austin Nature Preserve System

Join professional biologists with Austin Parks and Recreation Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and local experts from the community as part of a team of citizen scientists conducting a “bio-blitz” on a preserve that has not opened to the general public and has remained relatively isolated since the 1970s!  A bio-blitz is an event where experts and amateurs alike focus on a property for a limited time and document all species found.  No biological expertise is needed as all participants will use the iNaturalist app (loaded onto their phones) to simply record observations.  Observations will be reviewed and curated by experts to identify species.

Date/Time: May 21, 2022 (rain or shine) from 9am to noon

Location: 8003 Decker Lane, Austin, TX – Stop at the security guard office at the gate of the Decker Creek Power Station for instructions since the event will be held on property behind the power plant. A map to the power plant can be found at this link:
