About
The Food Recovery Network here at Weber State takes all of the overproduced food from campus dining services and donates it to the Lantern House or the Weber Cares Pantry. Over the course of the 2022 academic year, the
Food Recovery Network recovered 1,810 lbs. of food, the equivalent of 1,500 meals. Why is this important?
- 30-40% of all food produced is wasted. In 2019 that looked like 80M lbs, which is enough to feed every food-insecure person in the US for a whole year.
- The U.S. loses about $213.9 billion annually to food waste and healthcare costs associated with food insecurity.
- The Association of American Colleges & Universities found 48% of college students across the US are food insecure
At Weber State, we value every individual, collective excellence, and transformative experiences. These values rely on supporting a healthy and livable environment, equitable society, and viable economy. Volunteering with the Food Recovery Network is one way to make that happen. So sign up to #LiveGreenBleedPurple!
* Food Recovery dates are subject to change and are dependent on the quantity of surplus food produced on campus on a given day.
